Changing Account Keys in Desktop

Created by Greymass Team, Modified on Thu, 18 Sep at 1:22 PM by Tony Licavoli

This is a guide for changing your account keys in Anchor for Desktop. This process is useful in case you lose your account keys or if those keys have become compromised.

Note: Please be careful with this process. Performing it incorrectly can potentially ruin your account, locking you out permanently. We recommend reading the entire process before beginning.

Step 1
Create New Keys

To generate keys, you will need to go to “Tools” -> “Manage Keys” -> “Generate Key Pairs”.

Click the “Generate Key Pair (x2) button and you will have created two new sets of keys for you to use.

Step 2
Change Account Keys

Now that we have created a new set of keys, we will want to change out the existing keys for our new set.  To do this, we will need to go to “Tools” -> “Permissions” -> “Modify” under the “active permissions” section.

Next, you will paste in the new PUBLIC key into the “active permissions” field and select “Update Permission”

Step 3
Remove Account

Next, we will need to remove your account with the old private key.  To do this, go to “Manage Wallet” and find your account in the list. To the right of the green button that says “Use Wallet”, click the three dots and select “Delete Wallet”.

Step 4
Reimport Account

Now it is time to reimport. On the same screen you were on, select “Import Accounts” -> “Import an existing Account” -> “Import Private Key”. You can paste the PRIVATE key into the field labeled “Private Key” and click on the box that appears next to your account name to confirm that is the account you wish to import. Click “Import Account” to complete the process.
